Write to Me!

"Why don't you write me? I'm out in the jungle, I'm hungry to hear you...."
-Simon & Garfunkel

Feel free to write to me! (Or send me things.... :)

My address is:

Kateri Mankiewicz
P.O. Box 346
Kondoa, Dodoma, Tanzania

Please remember to write "Air Mail/ Par Avion" on letters, to make sure they are sent via plane and not by boat!

About packages: if you're sending something from the U.S., if you send it in a padded envelope (as opposed to a box), and if it is less than 3/4" thick, you may not have to fill out customs information. If you'd like to send some flat, inexpensive things, this is a great option. However as the mail system here is not entirely trustworthy, it's worth taking a few additional steps to help discourage theft:

-write the mailing address in RED ink. In many places, including Tanzania, red ink has historically been associated with people of importance, i.e. people whose mail you should not be pilfering.
-use religious images, quotes, or address me as "Sister Kateri" in the address. If people think the package has religious affiliations, they will again be less likely to pilfer it.

Some things that come to mind that I would definitely use and appreciate here:

-Gatorade powdered drink packets, or any other powdered drink packets, such as iced tea
-adhesive hooks like this
-Tom's or Arm & Hammer brand toothpaste and deodorant, and Trader Joe's face lotion like this
-duct tape. Again, didn't bring any but could definitely use some.
-seed packets for veggies and fruits.
-any other item, food or otherwise, that you think I could use or appreciate. I really don't have that much stuff here, so if there's anything specific you can always ask me if I'd like it or not! :)
